Holiday Spectacular!

It's the Holiday Season in Fishkill, and there are a host of community events to enjoy! Take a look at some local to-do's going on this month!

Garden Club Hosts Holiday Craft Event for Kids

Mark your calendar for Saturday, December 3, for the Verplanck Garden Club's free Children's Holiday Workshop!

The event will be held in the lower level of Town Hall from 9:30 to 12:30 and offers kids the chance to make a number of holiday crafts.

The event has been very popular in the past, and those seeking more information can find it on the Verplanck Garden Club Facebook page.

There are even reports that Santa Claus himself may be in attendance! be sure to save the date!

Village

Village of Fishkill Events This Weekend

The Blodgett Memorial Library will host its Ugly Christmas Sweater Craft event on Saturday, December 3 at 1:30pm. Come in to make an ugly sweater craft, take an ugly sweater cookie home, and remember to wear your best ugly sweater!

The Village of Fishkill will host its annual tree lighting on Sunday, December 4, 2022 from 2:30pm until sunset!

The celebration will be at Van Wyck Hall on Main Street, and will feature free hot cocoa and a special visit from the jolly old elf, St. Nick himself!

Holiday Hunt at Locust Grove

Locust Grove will host family-friendly scavenger hunts starting Sunday, December 4.

The scavenger hunt is inspired by the classic poem "A Visit from St. Nicholas," better known as "The Night Before Christmas."

Police Department to Collect Donations for Toys For Tots

The Town of Fishkill Police Department will be continuing its tradition of collecting gifts for Toys for Tots this year!

On Friday, December 9, from 2pm to 4pm, come to Walmart on Merritt Blvd to donate a new, unwrapped toy as part of the Police Department's Stuff-a-Cruiser initiative to fill a police vehicle with toys to donate to bring holiday joy to children who might otherwise go without.

The Town of Fishkill applauds the Police Department for this excellent initiative and hopes residents come out to donate to an excellent cause.

MTA Police Seeking Applicants

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (“MTA”) Police Department (“MTAPD”) is seeking highly motivated, qualified individuals for the position of Police Officer. MTA Police Officers are responsible for ensuring the safety of MTA customers and employees and for protecting property throughout the MTA’s New York and Connecticut operating regions (New York City, Long Island, Upstate NY, and Connecticut) on Long Island Rail Road, Metro-North Railroad, and the Staten Island Railway.

Town Police Receive Letter of Thanks From GAP Leaders

This week, the Town of Fishkill Police Department received a letter of thanks from leaders at GAP, Inc., after Town officers were among those who responded last month to a social media threat against the Fishkill distribution center on Merritt Blvd.

Town officers, along with Village Police and New York State Troopers, investigated and thwarted a possible active shooter threat, according to news reports. This week, GAP leaders sent a letter thanking Town officers for their response.

"We appreciate the urgency and professionalism of everyone involved in the response," GAP leadership said in the letter. "Our community is incredibly lucky to have such caring and dedicated public safety personnel."


New State Powerline Construction Project to Pass Through Fishkill

Construction has begun on an underground electrical transmission line that will bring Canadian hydropower to New York City as part of an effort to make the Big Apple less reliant on fossil fuels, state officials announced Wednesday.

Once complete, the Champlain Hudson Power Express will stretch 339 miles through New York state to deliver power.

This project will pass through the Town of Fishkill, and residents can learn more about the project from a recent news article.
