 Town Supervisor Ozzy Albra took time this weekend to pen the following message to the residents of Fishkill:
Dear Fishkill Residents,
This weekend, I've heard the concerns of several Fishkill residents, regarding misinformation surrounding the Town Board defunding the Town of Fishkill Police.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
I am proud to be able to tell you that I was the first municipal leader in Dutchess County to publicly promise on the record that I will NEVER entertain defunding our police. This statement was covered in local news media in June of 2020, which you can read here.
When asked by Mid Hudson News for my position, I said it directly:
“There will be no defunding. I will not defund the police department and we are probably going to hire extra officers because we are going to do police accreditation, something I always wanted to do here, and that is going to require a dedicated officer to do that,” I said on the record.

If you are a former law enforcement officer who has been retired for fewer than four years, you are eligible for this position.
Let me say it plainly: the Fishkill Town Board supports our our local police.
I can report to you all, that Councilmembers Jacqueline Bardini, Joseph Buono, Louise Daniele and Kenya Gadsden share my view in supporting a strong, robust and dedicated police department here in Fishkill, operating to the highest possible standards. All of these elected officials have made these comments in public and on the record, for more than a year.

This type of disinformation is consistent with other recent attacks against myself and the Town Board. These types of attacks are not new. Developers and attorneys from outside our Town have spoken out against the objectives of this administration, which has been committed from day one to prioritize the health, safety and quality of life of Town of Fishkill residents.
