Town of Fishkill

JULY 3, 2020

We hold these truths to be self-evident...

On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress in Philadelphia solemnly published and declared independence from Great Britain. In a document containing 1,458 words, the founders of our nation became the first in the history of the world to put pen to paper saying that all humanity is equal, and the first to found a government on the principles of liberty and freedom.

244 years later, in observance of Independence Day, the members of the Fishkill Town Board took a moment to read the Declaration of Independence. Click here to hear the words that gave birth to our nation.
