If your 2024 wages were less than $200,000—or $250,000 if you’re filing a joint return—you may qualify.

Sign up for emails about your return and refund
 Create an Individual Online Services account, then sign up for email notifications to:
✔ confirm we received your return,
✔ view and respond to letters about your return online, and
✔ receive a message when we issue your refund.

Gather your documentation
 If you received unemployment compensation, request your Form 1099-G from the Department of Labor. Remember to include the full amount on your New York State personal income tax return.
Log in to your Online Services account to verify the amounts of any extension or estimated tax payments you've made.
Request direct deposit—it's the easiest, fastest way to get your refund (Español | 繁體中文 | Русский | বাংলা | Kreyòl ayisyen | 한국어).
Understand your payment options
 If you owe a balance on your New York State income tax return, you can pay—or schedule a payment for—any day up to and including the April 15 due date.
You can pay:
- directly from your bank account for free, or
- with your credit card for a fee.
