 If no tax (or not enough tax) was withheld from your taxable income, you may be required to make estimated income tax payments.
Paying estimated tax helps you avoid owing money at the end of the year when you file your tax return and avoid accruing interest and penalty.
Estimated income tax due dates for tax year 2024 are as follows:
- 1st payment: April 15, 2024
- 2nd payment: June 17, 2024
- 3rd payment: September 16, 2024
- 4th payment: January 15, 2025
How do you make estimated tax payments?
You can pay your estimated income tax online using your Individual Online Services account or tax preparation software. Both are convenient, secure, and easy.
Note: If you need to cancel a scheduled estimated tax payment, you must do so through your Individual Online Services account—even if you scheduled the payment using software or paper Form IT-2105, Estimated Tax Payment Voucher for Individuals.
Pay using your Individual Online Services account

Log in to (or create) your Individual Online Services account.
- Review your tax account balance to see the total amount you paid, if any, throughout the year toward the tax on your income.

Estimate the tax (or remaining tax) you owe.
- From your Account Summary homepage, select the ≡ Services menu in the upper-left corner.
- Select Payments, bills and notices, then choose Make a payment from the expanded menu.

Choose Pay estimated tax as your payment type. If you don't see the option Pay estimated tax, select Make a Different Payment, then choose Pay estimated tax as your payment type.
Pay using tax preparation software
Visit E-file-approved commercial software: Personal income tax to find software that supports estimated tax payments.
If the software is listed with (ET) after the product name, it supports electronic estimated tax payments.
Check the box on the webpage to filter the list of approved commercial software for estimated tax.
