At the end of 2022, Tim Maher will be retiring. We are now seeking to identify our next Director of Real Property Tax Services.

As you are likely aware, the Office of Real Property Tax Services (ORPTS) oversees property tax administration across New York State. The Director of Real Property Tax Services advises the Tax Commissioner, the State Board, the Division of the Budget, the Governor’s Office, and other interested parties on issues related to real property tax administration. ORPTS also oversees New York State’s STAR, equalization, and valuation programs, as well as implementing new property tax programs as they are developed by the Governor and Legislature. And, ORPTS is working with the assessment community and the New York State Office for Information Technology Services to develop RPS Online, the next generation of the Real Property System software used by more than 95% of localities across the state.

Since 2010, ORPTS has been a division of the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. The Director of Real Property Tax Services leads ORPTS and is part of the Tax Department’s management team.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the future of New York’s property tax administration. Interested candidates must have a:

  • bachelor’s degree, and
  • eight years of experience overseeing real property tax administration, including three years at the managerial level.
