If no tax (or not enough tax) was withheld from your taxable income, you may be required to make estimated income tax payments.
Paying estimated tax helps you avoid owing money at the end of the year when you file your tax return and avoid accruing penalty and interest.
Estimated income tax due dates for tax year 2023 are as follows:
- 1st payment: April 18, 2023
- 2nd payment: June 15, 2023
- 3rd payment: September 15, 2023
- 4th payment: January 16, 2024
How do you make estimated tax payments?
You can pay your estimated income tax online using your Individual Online Services account or tax preparation software. Both are convenient, secure, and easy.
Note: If you need to cancel a scheduled estimated tax payment, you must do so through your Individual Online Services account—even if you scheduled the payment using software.
Pay using your Individual Online Services account
