Are you claiming dependents on your personal income tax return?

It's important that you only claim those dependents that qualify and to provide documentation to support your claim. Start with the IRS online tool, Whom May I Claim as a Dependent? The IRS determines who can be claimed as a dependent. 

 

If we ask you for more information about a dependent you're claiming, visit Checklist for acceptable proof of a child or dependent for all the information you’ll need to respond.

 

When you file an accurate return and respond to requests for information promptly, you can help avoid processing and refund delays.
