Take advantage of Free File: save time and money—and put your entire refund back into your own pocket!

There’s one month to go! If your 2020 income was $72,000 or less, you can complete and submit your federal and New York State income tax returns online for free.

 

Join the nearly 100,000 New York taxpayers who have used our Free File software so far this filing season and saved hundreds of dollars each. 

 

To find the Free File option that’s right for you—and to avoid being charged a fee—visit Free File your income tax return, or choose Free File from the Tax Department homepage at www.tax.ny.gov.

 

When you prepare and file your return using Free File, you’ll save on tax preparation fees and added costs for software, prevent costly errors, and ensure you directly receive any refund you’re owed. To receive your refund up to two weeks faster, request direct deposit when you e-file your return. 

 

Remember: If you access Free File software from the Tax Department website, it’s 100% free to eligible taxpayers.
