This income tax filing season, we're introducing expanded resources to make it easier for you to file your return, if you haven't already done so. Our filing season resource center and the guidance below will point you in the right direction.
Returns are due Thursday, April 15.
Before you file
-
Create an Individual Online Services account. When you file your return, you'll be able to confirm that we received it. If you receive a letter or notice about your return, you can respond directly from your account.
With an Online Services account, you can also monitor your filing history for fraudulent returns. To report fraudulent activity, visit Report fraud, scams, and identity theft.
-
Request electronic communications to view letters or notices about your return online instead of waiting to receive them by mail. You can sign up once you've created and logged in to your Online Services account.
Do this before you file to ensure you receive all messages about your return and refund.
When you're ready to file
- Request direct deposit—it's the easiest, fastest way to get your refund.
Need more time to file? You can request an automatic extension of time to file. You must file your extension request on or before April 15.
