In most towns, the deadline to apply or renew property tax exemptions is March 1

The deadline to apply for or renew property tax exemptions in most towns is rapidly approaching.

Maybe you’re receiving an exemption for agricultural properties, which requires an annual renewal by the March 1 deadline. Or maybe you’re newly eligible for a veterans exemption. Either way, if the deadline in your city or town is March 1, make sure to get your application in on time.

New for 2021 only: If you’re receiving a senior citizens exemption or the exemption for persons with disabilities and limited incomes, you do not need to renew your exemption with your assessor this year. Due to the pandemic, legislation waived the renewal requirement for 2021.

If you’re not sure of the deadline in your town, contact your assessor. You can use our Municipal Profiles tool to find contact information for your assessor and other town officials. You can search for your municipality’s name, or select your county, and then your city or town.
