Late Enhanced STAR applications. With taxable status date behind most of you, here are options for your seniors who missed the opportunity to apply or re-apply for Enhanced STAR:
- Up until grievance day, assessors can accept applications for Enhanced STAR for seniors who missed the deadline due to: a) the death of an immediate family member, or b) serious illness or hospitalization that can be documented by a physician. The applications can be for either new or renewal Enhanced STAR exemptions. (RPTL 425(6)(e)).
- Up until the deadline for paying school taxes, seniors who missed the deadline for “good cause” have the option to apply to our department. Here are the details.
2017 RAR's for Most Cities & Towns Now Online. Residential Assessment Ratios (RAR's) for 2017 are now available online for cities and towns with tentative roll dates of May 1 or earlier via ORPTS' Municipal Profiles web application online here. (Once in "Munipro," select a county or municipality and then select "RAR Information"). For those municipalities with later tentative roll dates, the RAR's will be online sixty days prior to tentative roll date. RAR correspondence will not be mailed to assessors unless the initial ratio is revised.

Did you know? ORPTS has issued more than 1,300 Opinions of Counsel? Topics include whether honey qualifies as a crop for the purposes of the agricultural assessment program (Vol.11, No.84), removing a member of the Board of Assessment Review (Vol.4, No.27), or whether above-ground swimming pools are considered real property (Vol.2, No.93 and Vol.9, No.75) just to name a few. Curious? You can research additional subject matter using the search function available on the index page.
