Empire State Child Credit: Help Families Get the Expanded Child Tax Credit
Dear Community Partner,
Every day, you work directly with parents who are doing everything they can to support their families. Many of those parents are eligible for important financial supports, including significant tax credits, but may not know they qualify or how to apply by filing a New York State tax return.
Thanks to Governor Kathy Hochul and the support of the New York State Legislature, the Empire State Child Credit has been significantly expanded beginning with the 2025 tax year. The expanded credit provides meaningful support for low-income working families with children and is a key part of New York’s commitment to cutting child poverty in half over the next decade.
We encourage you to watch and share this video with members of your team and others to help spread the word to the parents and caregivers you work with, especially those who may not think filing a state income tax return applies to them.
The following website - otda.ny.gov/childcredit - has additional information and tools to help get the word out.
Your outreach and trusted guidance can make the difference in helping families access hundreds or even thousands of dollars that can help them with their rent, child care, food, and other basic needs.
Thank you for the work you do every day to support New York’s families and communities.
Sincerely,
Barbara C. Guinn
