The New York State Office for New Americans invites you to a special webinar on how you can support healthy new American communities. This webinar will feature presenters who will share resources and information on a variety of different health services, from disability services to oral health, as well as how to tackle barriers in accessing health services for new Americans.

Cynthia Stewart, MS, the Ramirez June Developmental Disabilities Navigator for the NYS Office for New Americans (ONA) leading the Ramirez June Initiative
Cynthia Stewart, MS, is the Ramirez June Developmental Disabilities Navigator for the NYS Office for New Americans (ONA) in partnership with the NYS Council on Developmental Disabilities (CDD). Since 2019, Cynthia has led the ONA Ramirez June Initiative which builds capacity to assist new Americans with developmental disabilities (DD) in connecting with vital resources, information, and services in NYS. Cynthia has a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from the State University of New York at New Paltz and has provided therapy for individuals with DD as a clinical intern. As a direct support professional for the ARC Mid-Hudson, Cynthia has supported individuals with IDD to achieve their goals.

Dr. Romina Barros is a Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician. Presently, she is the Chief Division of Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics at the NYU Langone Hospital Long Island and maintains a faculty appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor at NYU Long Island School of Medicine. Dr. Barros is also currently serving as one of the CDC’s “Learn the Sign. Act Early.” Ambassadors for New York State. |
Before becoming the Chief Division of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics at the NYU Langone Hospital Long Island, Dr. Barros served as the Medical Director of Trauma Services and the Under Five Program at Montefiore Medical Center and had a faculty appointment as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Barros also served as the Director of the Developmental-Behavioral Program and Director of Community Pediatrics and Advocacy Program at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center and held an appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor at New York Medical College. During her term at Brookdale, she was awarded with two private funders and the New York State OMH Grant to start a Healthy Steps Program which she implemented, oversaw, and directed. She is Board Certified in Pediatrics as well as in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics. She completed her pediatric residency at Brookdale Hospital in 2004 and her fellowship in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics at Einstein/Children’s Hospital at Montefiore in 2007. Bridget A. Walsh, MPH is the Senior Policy Analyst for Health and Public Health at the Schuyler Center for Analysis and Advocacy. The Schuyler Center is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that advances policies to improve opportunities for families and increase child well-being so all New York children have a fair chance to thrive. Ms. Walsh has over 30 years of experience in the field of health policy in New York where her experience is concentrated in the areas of health financing, public insurance programs, maternal and child health, oral health, and the social determinants of health. |

She has held positions in New York State government as well as in several non-profit organizations representing constituencies as varied as physicians and business.
She received her Masters in Public Health from the University of Albany School of Public Health and she holds a Bachelors degree in Politics from Ithaca College.

Gustavo A Morales Correa is the Director of Access to Care at the Latino Commission on AIDS and an energizing leader with over two decades in HIV/STD prevention. He drove a game-changing 7.2% HIV seropositivity rate for Latino MSM 30+ and 7.0% for under 30 during 2015-2017 and orchestrated a massive MPOX vaccination campaign, administering 1,500+ vaccines in underserved communities. Adept at holistic sexual health strategies, and training 300+ Mental Health First Aiders, he has spearheaded diverse affiliations, from influential PrEP initiatives to innovative social marketing campaigns. |
