Dear Climate Smart Community Leader:

Municipalities develop many plans to guide land use, emergency response, floodplain management, hazard mitigation, etc. The Climate Smart Communities program has released a new tool, Climate Smart Resiliency Planning, to help local planners and officials assess how well these plans incorporate resiliency to climate hazards. The tool includes information on climate hazards in New York State and links to resources that can help municipalities fill the gaps identified in their plans.

Climate Smart Resiliency Planning is available at http://www.dec.ny.gov/energy/82168.html . A companion spreadsheet version intended to facilitate information gathering is also available upon request to climatechange@gw.dec.state.ny.us .
