Drinking Water Source Protection Program - Special Edition Newsletter

Technical Assistance Available for Communities to Develop Drinking Water Source Protection Programs

Today, the New York State Department of Health and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced that technical assistance is available to communities that apply to develop and initiate implementation of the drinking water source protection program (DWSP2). DWSP2 is open to community public water suppliers in New York State and all are invited to submit an application. The announcement can be found here

The State is seeking communities to work with a technical assistance provider (TA provider), free of charge, to develop a DWSP2 plan for their public drinking water source(s). DWSP2 plans not only protect public health but also protect water quality of both surface and groundwater sources across the state.

TA providers will help municipalities develop community-specific DWSP2 plans that they can implement by exploring and ultimately accessing numerous resources available to protect their source(s) of public drinking water.

Selected municipalities must be prepared to work with a TA provider throughout the DWSP2 process and commit to implementing their programs.

To apply, visit the Drinking Water Source Protection Program (DWSP2) website and complete a short electronic application. If you have any questions, reach out to the DWSP2 Team at source.water@dec.ny.gov.
