Couple fishing with bass

Help Trout Beat the Heat this Summer

Brown troutThe warmth and sunshine of summer in New York provide ideal conditions for picnics, barbecues, and fireworks. For coldwater fishes like trout and salmon however, summer heat waves impose serious stress and can even cause death. Trout and salmon that are already heat-stressed may not recover after being caught and released.

Anglers can help these fish survive the summer by following a few simple tips. Visit DEC's website (PDF) to find out how.
