Celebrate Water Week

Gull Pond Please join DEC's Division of Water in celebrating Water Week, May 9 – 15. For over 35 years, New York has set aside a full week in May to focus on its abundant water resources, highlight water issues and encourage stewardship. This year’s theme is Clean Water for Everyone to highlight the importance of clean water no matter where you live--city, suburb, or countryside.

Clean water is an asset to a community’s health and economic vitality. The Division of Water is committed to protecting and restoring New York’s waters in all areas of the state for all people, regardless of race, color, or income.

For ideas on ways you can help protect and conserve our water resources no matter where you live, go to DEC’s Watershed Stewardship and Keep Water Clean webpages.

New Initiative to Protect Drinking Water Sources

DEC and the Department of Health (DOH) have announced a new initiative to assist municipalities with assessing and supporting drinking water source protection programs. As part of New York's Drinking Water Source Protection Program (DWSP2), up to 40 volunteer communities will work with technical assistance partners to develop programs that proactively protect public drinking water supplies. DWSP2 is a multi-agency initiative led by DEC and DOH, in collaboration with the departments of Agriculture and Markets and State.

Learn more about the DWSP2 and the volunteer communities on DEC's website or contact source.water@dec.ny.gov.  To sign up for the DWSP2 newsletter, go to the DEC Delivers subscription page
