Celebrate Flood Safety Preparedness WeekNext week, March 14 - 20, is Flood Safety Preparedness Week in New York. Floods are the most common and expensive natural disasters. To help New Yorkers be more prepared for the next flooding event, DEC's Division of Water will highlight topics related to flooding in DEC Facebook and Instagram posts next week. To learn more about floodplain management, check out DEC's Facebook and Instagram posts during Flood Safety Preparedness Week and/or visit DEC's Floodplain Management webpage. Funding Opportunity Reminder: NYS DOT Bridge NY ProgramThe NYS Department of Transportation is accepting applications for the BRIDGE NY funding program, which will help local governments over the next two years restore and replace bridges and culverts statewide. These infrastructure investments will enhance the quality of life for residents and businesses in every region of the State and provide support for making communities more resilient to the impacts of climate change. Draft applications must be received by April 14, for culvert projects and by May 5 for bridge projects. For more information, visit the Department of Transportation's website. Reminder: Annual Water Withdrawal ReportingThe DEC Water Withdrawal Reporting Program is currently receiving water withdrawal reporting data for 2020. Reporting is required by March 31 each year for non-agricultural facilities that have a withdrawal capacity of 100,000 gallons or more per day and agricultural facilities that registered or reported their existing withdrawals to the DEC prior to February 15, 2012. For additional information, contact Water Withdrawal Reporting staff at 518-402-8182 or AWQRSDEC@dec.ny.gov. Annual Fix a Leak Week
Fix a Leak Week is March 15 -21, 2021. As an EPA WaterSense partner, DEC encourages you to improve your home's water efficiency by finding and fixing leaks. The average household leaks can account for nearly 10,000 gallons of water wasted every year, and 10 percent of homes have leaks that waste 90 gallons or more per day. Visit DEC's Saving Water Makes Good Sense webpage for more tips on how to save water at home.
