Keeping Sea Lamprey Numbers in Check on Cayuga Lake
During the week of August 10, 2020, DEC Fisheries staff from around the state will be working together to conduct a pesticide treatment on Cayuga Inlet in Ithaca to control nuisance sea lamprey larvae. When left uncontrolled, the larvae metamorphosize from filter feeders to fish parasites, leaving large sores and sometimes holes in trout and other Cayuga Lake fish species. Host fish are often unable to survive sea lamprey parasitism, either dying directly from an attack or from infections in the wound after an attack, and those that do survive an attack often suffer from weight loss and a decline in health and condition. SCAM ALERTIt has come to our attention that fraudulent websites claiming to sell NYS Freshwater Fishing Licenses are scamming users into providing personal information. While we work to resolve this issue, please be advised that the only legitimate method to purchase your NYS fishing license online is through the official DECALS website.
