Fish Hatchery Facelift

A major NY Works-funded projectCaledonia Fish Hatchery is underway to restore the historic main hatchery building at DEC’s Caledonia Fish Hatchery. Dating back to the late 1800s, the hatchery is the oldest in North America, holding a very special place in history. The project includes realigning the structure, which had developed a significant “tilt” to one side over the years, new windows and doorways, a new concrete floor, and new fiberglass raceways.

These much-needed upgrades will ensure the longevity of the hatchery for many more years to come.

Be in the Know with Fisheries Technical Briefs

The Bureau of Fisheries conducts hundredsDEC stream electrofishing of fisheries surveys throughout the state each year. Over the past few years, our Fisheries biologists have started summarizing these survey results in a succinct format. These fisheries technical briefs offer a glimpse into key findings while providing an interpretation of the study. We have added 150 new technical briefs to our website recently, so take some time to look over the briefs and learn something new about your next fishing destination. Happy reading!

Scam Alert

It has come to our attention that fraudulent websites claiming to sell NYS Freshwater Fishing Licenses are scamming users into providing personal information. While we work to resolve this issue, please be advised that the only legitimate method to purchase your NYS fishing license online is through the official DECALS website.
