Media Advisory for April 15, 2020 |
Digital outreach event to be held by DEC, Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper about Buffalo RiverWhat: Representatives from New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and staff from Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper will host a digital outreach event about the Buffalo River Area of Concern. The event will provide information about reduction in phenol levels in the Buffalo River that could lead to the removal of the "Tainting of Fish and Wildlife" beneficial use impairment (BUI) designation for the river. Phenols are chemical compounds, often resulting from industrial contamination, that affect the smell or taste of fish. This is a piece of the overall mission toward eventually delisting the Buffalo River as a federal Area of Concern.
