May 2019 Commercial Trip Limits

These limits are for NYS Food Fish License Holders only:

  • Summer FlounderFor holders of a summer flounder permit only. Effective Wednesday, May 1, 2019, the weekly program is Closed, and the daily trip limit is set at 70 lbs. This daily trip limit will remain in effect until further notice.
  • Black Sea Bass - Effective Wednesday, May 1, 2019, the black sea bass fishery is Closed. This closure remains in effect through May 14, 2019. Effective Wednesday, May 15, 2019 the daily trip limit is set at 50 lbs. This trip limit remains in effect until further notice.
  • Spiny Dogfish - Effective Wednesday, May 1, 2019, the daily trip limit for spiny dogfish remains at 6,000 pounds. This trip limit will remain in effect until further notice.
  • Bluefish - Effective Wednesday, May 1, 2019, the daily trip limit for bluefish is set at 1,000 pounds. This trip limit will remain in effect until further notice.
  • Scup - Effective Wednesday, May 1, 2019, the daily trip limit is set at 800 pounds. This trip limit will remain in effect through June 30, 2019 or otherwise notified. Effective July 1, 2019, the daily trip limit is set at 600 lbs.

Weekly Scup Pilot Program

The program will run May 1, 2019 through June 15, 2019 with a weekly limit of 4,000 lbs., unless otherwise indicated. To participate, the following is required:

  • All participants must review the parameters of the program by visiting Weekly Harvest Programs.
  • Participation requires full compliance with all rules and parameters of the program. Failure to comply will result in revocation of participation letter and removal of the permit holder from the weekly pilot program. Participants removed from the program will still be able to harvest scup under the daily trip limit.
  • To participate, please send an e-mail to Commercial.Fisheries@dec.ny.gov and include the following information:
    • ‘Weekly Scup Program’ in subject line
    • In the body, include: name, address, Food Fish license number, vessel name, regular port of landing (participants may land at any desired port), best contact info – (e-mail & phone), federal permit number (if applicable), and if you report electronically.
    • The statement: ‘I, NAME, request participation in the weekly scup pilot program'.
    • Upon receipt of the e-mail, participants will be sent an application to fill out, sign and return.
    • In order to participate in the weekly scup program, you must complete and submit an application. Applications shall be accepted through May 17, 2019 at 3 p.m.
