Refrigerant Management - Reducing the Climate Change Impacts of Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases

CSC Webinar on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM

All refrigeration and air conditioning systems rely on chemical refrigerants, many of which are powerful greenhouse gases (GHGs). Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), for example, have a global warming effect up to 9,000 times greater than carbon dioxide. HFCs are widely used in commercial and industrial refrigeration equipment, air conditioning systems, heat pump equipment and aerosols, solvents, and fire extinguishers. HFC emissions in New York State are expected to rise significantly in the near future.

This Climate Smart Communities webinar will focus on what fluorinated greenhouse gases are, where and why they are used, and the climate change impacts associated with them. Attendees will also hear about alternative refrigerants that have a lower global warming potential. Speakers will include engineers from the New York State Pollution Prevention Institute. Join us to learn what communities can do to reduce impacts and what resources are available to assist in meeting local goals.
