Volunteer April 26: Hudson Estuary Trees for Tribs Potting Up in New PaltzHudson Estuary Trees for Tribs (tributaries) will launch its spring planting season with “Potting up”, an event in celebration of Arbor Day on Friday, April 26, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Volunteers are invited to join Estuary Program staff to help plant 4,000 bare-root seedlings into pots for spring and fall planting projects. Tools, gloves, and a pizza lunch will be provided to volunteers. The event takes place at the DEC Region 3 Headquarters, 21 South Putt Corners Road, New Paltz. Register for 'I Love My Park' at Norrie Point Environmental Center in Staatsburg May 4I Love My Park Day is an annual event that brings together thousands of volunteers to celebrate and enhance New York's parks, historic sites, and public lands. You can help spruce up these special places at a variety of locations including at Norrie Point Environmental Center located within Mills-Norrie State Park in Staatsburg, Dutchess County. Volunteers can help clear brush, pick up debris, or paint and stain picnic tables. The work event takes place Saturday, May 4, and volunteers can come at any time between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. For more details and to register, please visit Parks and Trails New York and select “Hudson Valley” from the location list. Click on “Register in Hudson Valley Region” and select Mills Norrie State Park. Give back to the places you love! After you've volunteered, join DEC for a free fishing clinic (see below). Free Family Fishing Clinic May 4 at Norrie PointWant to try your hand at fishing in the Hudson?Join our family-friendly, free, angling program on May 4th, 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Norrie Point Environmental Center, Mills Norrie State Park in Staatsburg, NY. All equipment is provided—no license required! Angling is wheelchair accessible and adaptive fishing rods are available. This program is sponsored by DEC's I Fish NY. For more information contact the Hudson River Research Reserve at 845-889-4745 x109. DEC fisheries staff will be available to teach participants about fish identification, angling techniques, and fishing safety. |
