#RecycleRightRecycling CanNY

Did you know that recycling steel saves nearly 74 percent of the energy used to produce it from raw materials? That energy is enough to power about 18 million homes for a full year. Make sure your metal food cans, like those from soup, coffee, and canned vegetables, are making it into your recycling bin. These are valuable materials that can be re-melted again and again to make new products. Just make sure your cans are free of any food residue or liquids that could spill out. This helps increase the value of all recyclable materials by keeping them clean and dry. See what your recycled cans could create!

Join the Recycle Right NY Movement

Recycle Right NY is a 12-month education campaign for 2019 focused on supporting efforts to reduce contamination in residential recycling programs across NYS. The campaign focuses on educating residents on one recycling topic per month. Campaign materials including monthly text and photos, as seen above, are available for use in your own social media and digital and print newsletters. For more information about the campaign or on how to get involved and receive free downloadable campaign resources, e-mail recycling@dec.ny.gov. Remember to tag #RecycleRightNY on your social media!
