Pack-it for the Planet on National Pack your Lunch Day!

March 10th is National Pack Your Lunch Day! Packing your own lunch with sustainability in mind is a great way to reduce your waste and conserve natural resources while making healthy decisions.

Why pack your own lunch?

  • You have control over how much single use packaging you use (or do not use!)
  • Packing a lunch with less waste is an easy way that you can directly participate in environmental conservation
  • It's healthy for you and the planet! When you choose whole foods over fast food, takeout, or convenience foods in single-use packaging, you may just find it's healthier for you too!

Zero Waste LunchHow to participate with sustainability in mind

  • Choose to Reuse! Packaging and containers made to be used once and disposed of don't use natural resources to their full potential. Reduce your waste in the first place and choose reusable containers, utensils, napkins, and bag.
  • Choose foods without packaging when you can - like swapping a bag of chips with a banana.
  • If you can't find foods without packaging, choose foods that come in packaging that can be recycled and/or made with recycled content or buy in bulk over single portions.
  • Plan your lunch ahead of time and think of ways you can cut your waste. When prepping, buy and prepare enough food that you can reasonably consume to minimize food waste.
