EPA to Hold Public Information Session About Proposed Residential Sampling Related to the Facet Enterprises, Inc. Superfund Site, Elmira Heights |
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to Hold Public Information SessionThursday, November 15, 2018 The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been investigating groundwater contamination at the Facet Enterprises, Inc. Superfund Site (Elmira Heights, Chemung Co.) for several years. EPA has determined that groundwater in the vicinity of the Motor Components facility (former Facet Enterprises facility) has been impacted by volatile organic compounds (VOCs). VOCs are contaminants that easily evaporate into the air. Such chemicals can produce emissions which can evaporate from groundwater, rise through the soil and potentially affect indoor air quality. This is called “vapor intrusion.” This public information session will provide you with the opportunity to learn about vapor intrusion and the sampling that EPA is proposing at residences in your area. You will have the opportunity to talk with EPA staff, one-on-one, regarding any concerns/questions that you may have related to this sampling. If you have any questions regarding this meeting, please feel free to contact the site's Community Involvement Coordinator, Mike Basile, at the Western New York Public Information Office in Buffalo, NY at (716) 551-4410. Please do not respond to this email. Replies go to an untended mailbox. If you have questions about the contaminated site identified above, please use the contact information provided in this notice. |
