Changes for Summer Flounder, Scup, and Bluefish

Summer Flounder (Fluke) Closure:

  • Effective 12:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2018, the commercial summer flounder (fluke) fishery is CLOSED to summer flounder All Gear and Hook and Line Gear permit holders. Summer flounder remains open at 50 lbs. daily trip limit for summer flounder Fixed Gear permit holders.
  • Effective Monday, October 1, 2018, the daily trip limit for summer flounder is set at 50 lbs. This trip limit will remain in effect until further notice.

Scup Daily Trip Limit Increase:

  • Effective Sunday, September 16, 2018, the daily trip limit for scup is set at 2,000 lbs. This trip limit will remain in effect through September 30, 2018.
  • Effective Monday, October 1, 2018, the Winter II coast wide scup management plan goes into effect. The initial per trip possession limit, as announced by NOAA Fisheries, is 12,000 lbs. This limit will remain in effect until further notice or through December 31, 2018.

Bluefish Daily Trip Limit Increase:

  • Effective Sunday, September 16, 2018, the daily trip limit for bluefish is increased to 2,000 lbs. This trip limit will remain in effect until further notice.

These actions are taken under the authority of 6 NYCRR 40.1 (u), and quota distribution schedule referenced therein.

All fish commercially harvested must be reported on the Vessel Trip Reports (VTRs). If you need extra VTRs, or would like information on online reporting, please call 631-444-0857.

Postcards have been sent to appropriate permit holders.
