Bowhunters: Help Monitor Deer and Other Wildlife PopulationsLast year, 3,648 bowhunters from across the state participated in the Bowhunter Sighting Log and provided valuable data to aid DEC biologists with long-term monitoring of deer, and other wildlife populations. Participants logged 169,549 hours afield and recorded seeing 123,207 deer, 32,209 turkeys, 2,282 ruffed grouse, 2,193 coyotes, 1,384 red fox, 1,591 raccoons, 417 fisher, 331 black bears, 274 gray fox, 115 bobcats, nine river otter, and four moose. Examples of trend information for deer, turkeys and several furbearers are shown in the graphs below.
