DEC Invites Public Comment About Brownfield Cleanup Program Application and Draft Investigation Plan for Site on Canal St., Rochester

DEC has received a Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP) application and Draft Remedial Investigation Work Plan from East House Canal Street LLC for a site known as Canal Street Manufacturing Site, site ID #C828206. This site is located in the City of Rochester, within the County of Monroe, and is located at 67 & 89 Canal Street, 14608.

A copy of the application, Draft Remedial Investigation Work Plan and other relevant documents are available at the document repository located at the City of Rochester Public Library - Rundel Building, 115 South Avenue, Rochester 14604.

There are several ways to comment on BCP applications. Comments can be submitted to the site Project Manager Todd Caffoe at NYSDEC, 6274 East Avon-Lima Road, Avon, NY 14414; via email at todd.caffoe@dec.ny.gov or by calling (585) 226-5350. All comments must be submitted by June 15, 2018.

What is the Brownfield Cleanup Program?

New York’s Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP) is designed is to encourage private-sector cleanups of brownfields and to promote their redevelopment as a means to revitalize economically blighted communities. The BCP is an alternative to “greenfield” (land not previously developed or contaminated) development and is intended to remove some of the barriers to, and provide tax incentives for, the redevelopment of brownfields. Since its inception (2003), the BCP has catalyzed the cleanup of more than 300 contaminated sites statewide and incentivized redevelopment. There are more than 350 active sites in the BCP.
