Green Your Commute On Friday May 18, 2018!

Lace up those shoes, oil those gears, and load up those transit cards because Green Your Commute Day (GYCD) is coming! This year’s event is taking place on Friday, May 18th. Every year New Yorkers are encouraged to use a more sustainable means of getting to work on this day, including walking, biking, taking transit, carpooling, driving an electric vehicle, or using any means that is not driving alone in a gasoline powered vehicle.

GYCD

Community leaders like you can help increase the positive environmental impact from this day by both participating in the day yourselves and encouraging your residents to do the same. Here are some ideas for how you can help make this year’s GYCD the largest ever:

  • Send an email out to your list servs letting people know about the day. Use the attached poster (see below) to spread the word.
  • Post to social media about the event and use the poster as an image. Make sure to use #GYCD18 on all posts
    • Encourage them to post a selfie from their green commute using #GYCD18.
  • Have municipal officials and staff participate in the day and post about their participation on social media using #GYCD18.
  • Hold an event on the morning of GYCD to promote green commuting and green commuting initiatives in your community.

You can find more information and green commuting resources to share at the DEC's Green Your Commute webpage.

If you have questions about Green Your Commute Day, or would like more information or resources to organize around the event, please reach out to Brendan Woodruff (Brendan.woodruff@dec.ny.gov).
