DECinfo Locator Web Tool Available

DEC has launched DECinfo Locator, a map-based web tool to provide easy access to documents and public data pertaining to the environmental quality of specific sites and outdoor recreational opportunities in New York State. The current prototype includes information on Air Title 5 permitted facilities, wastewater treatment facilities, remediation and bulks storage sites, permitted mines, boat launches, DEC state land, and much more. Additional environmental information will be added in the future.

Public Comments Being Accepted on Proposed Rulemaking to Amend Water Quality Standards and the Classification of Upper and Lower New York Bay

DEC has announced a proposed rulemaking to amend Parts 700, 703, and 890 of Title 6 of the Codes, Rules, and Regulations of the State of New York (6 NYCRR) to adopt new standards for enterococci and E. coli to meet the requirements of federal law and to upgrade the classifications of certain surface waters in the New York Harbor.

Public comments on the proposed rulemaking will be accepted through June 12, 2018.
Public Information Meetings will be held on May 1 and May 3, and Public Hearings will be held
on June 5 and June 7. View the March 21, 2018 Environmental Notice Bulletin for instructions on how to comment and for more information about the meetings and hearings. The rulemaking documents are available on DEC’s Proposed Regulations webpage.

HAB Summit Recording and Next Evening Session

A recording of the live stream of the March 20 North Country Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) Summit evening session is available for viewing. This was the third of four summits being held to guide the state’s comprehensive effort to protect vulnerable lakes and waterbodies in Upstate New York from HABs.

Each summit includes an evening session open to the public where background information about HABs is provided. The next and final summit evening session is on Monday, March 26 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in Rochester (R. Thomas Flynn Campus Center, SUNY Monroe Community College, the Forum, 1000 East Henrietta Road, Rochester, NY 14623).
