Recording of Central New York Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) Summit Posted

A recording of the live stream of the March 6HABs Summit Central New York HABs Summit evening session is available for viewing. This was the second of four summits being held to guide the state’s comprehensive effort to protect vulnerable lakes and waterbodies in Upstate New York from HABs.

Each summit includes an evening session open to the public where background information about HABs is provided. The next summit evening session is on Tuesday, March 20 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in Ticonderoga (Best Western Ticonderoga, 260 Burgoyne Road, Ticonderoga, NY 12883).

New York Great Lakes Basin Small Grants Program Open

New York Sea Grant and DEC announced $200,000 is available for Great Lakes ecosystem-based management projects through the New York Great Lakes Basin Small Grants Program. Proposed projects must use a complete ecosystem-based approach rather than a single issue or single species focus, incorporate stakeholder participation, and address key priorities in the New York Great Lakes Action Agenda. Applications are due by 4:30 PM on May 1, 2018.

Water Well Contractor Program Registration Reminder

The DEC Water Well Contractor Program is Well Drillercurrently accepting applications for the Certificate of Registration for the period April 1, 2018 through March 31, 2019. Registration is required each year for all water well contractors who drill or repair water wells in New York State. The on-site contractor must be certified for the work that they are conducting (well drilling and/or pump installation). A Preliminary Notice must be filed prior to drilling a well and a Water Well Completion Report must be filed upon completion of water well drilling. National Groundwater Awareness Week is Groundwater Awareness WeekMarch 11 – 17, 2018. Groundwater is an often misunderstood resource that provides one quarter of New Yorkers, and half of all Americans, with their drinking water. It can be found virtually everywhere on the planet at depths ranging from very shallow to very deep.
