SPDES Compliance and Enforcement Annual ReportThe SPDES Compliance and Enforcement annual report for state fiscal year 2016/2017 is now available. This report details DEC’s compliance and enforcement oversight of facilities permitted under the State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) and those activities relating to New York State’s authorizations under the Clean Water Act. The report also provides a summary of sewage releases reported to DEC as required under the Sewage Pollution Right to Know (SPRTK) Act. New Flowing Wells WebpageDEC has posted a new webpage on Flowing Wells (water flows to the surface without a pump). The page discusses the potential for waste and damage if these wells are not controlled, how to properly control them, and why they occur. Annual Black River Initiative Newsletter AvailableThe Tug Hill Commission, in collaboration with DEC’s Great Lakes Program and other organizations in the Black River watershed, released the 2017 Black River Initiative newsletter. The newsletter highlights efforts to improve natural resource management, recreation and resiliency in the Black River Watershed, and advance projects to improve water quality through implementation of the Black River Nine Element Watershed Plan.
