Urban Environmental Education CentersGrants for the development of Urban Environmental Education Centers are now available. In November, Governor Cuomo announced $1 million to support community-based organizations in their efforts to educate residents about environmental issues. To apply for a grant, visit the New York State Grants Gateway. If you are currently a registered user on the Gateway, please log in using your credentials. Applications are due February 2, 2018 by 3:00 PM EST EPA EJ Collaborative Problem-Solving Grants Opportunity is Now Open!The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking proposals for the Environmental Justice Collaborative Problem-Solving (EJCPS) Cooperative Agreement Program. This program provides funding to support community-based organizations in their efforts to collaborate and partner with local stakeholder groups (e.g., local businesses and industry, local government, medical providers, and academia) as they develop and implement solutions that address environmental and/or public health issues in underserved communities. The EJCPS program will award approximately $1.2 million nationwide in this competitive opportunity, and EPA anticipates awarding ten cooperative agreements (one in each of the ten EPA Regions) of up to $120,000 each. Marion works out of our Region 9 office as an Assistant Environmental Engineer with the Division of Materials Management. She has been with DEC for three years and works with facilities that manage solid waste to ensure they comply with state law. She also does public outreach to highlight the importance of recycling and waste reduction through various programs and initiatives, including the ‘Repair Café,’ which encourages residents to bring items and old appliances in to be fixed instead of throwing them away or sending them to landfills.
