DEC Announces Black Friday / Cyber Monday Sale for 'Conservationist' Magazine

Special Offer Saves Subscribers 50% on DEC's Flagship Magazine

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Basil Seggos today announced that yearly subscriptions to Conservationist magazine, DEC's flagship publication, will be offered at half price beginning Black Friday, Nov. 24, through Cyber Monday, Nov. 27. Subscribers will receive seven issues of the State's award-winning outdoor magazine for just $6 through this special offer.

"For more than 70 years, Conservationist has captivated hundreds of thousands of outdoor enthusiasts, including hunters, anglers, and everyone who enjoys New York's peerless natural resources," said Commissioner Seggos. "With articles that cover a broad range of environmental and outdoor recreation topics, Conservationist makes a great holiday gift for any nature lover, and at half the regular subscription price, it's a great deal. Last year, more than 1,000 people took advantage of our Black Friday / Cyber Monday sale, so we've decided to repeat this offer at last year's price."

Through photography, artwork, and feature articles, the award-winning Conservationist informs and entertains readers about the Empire State's natural resources and outdoor recreation opportunities. Regular features like "On Patrol" offer a glimpse into the daily work of DEC's Environmental Conservation Police Officers and Forest Rangers. Letters from subscribers share what New Yorkers see in their own backyards, and "Ask the Biologist" helps readers identify wildlife and understand wildlife behavior. The recurring "What is it?" feature challenges readers to identify parts of plants and animals from an extreme close-up view.

Recent issues feature articles on topics as varied as bluebirds, woodpeckers, sturgeon, snapping turtles, Adirondack lean-tos, mountain rescues, and stunning photography by renowned wildlife photographers Carl Heilman II, Christopher Murray, and Wayne Jones. Future issues will include exciting articles on otters, the spruce grouse (one of New York's rarest birds), Blanding's turtles, First Day Hikes, a new recurring feature profiling New York's fish hatcheries and wildlife management areas, and more. Conservationist readers can always find critter profiles, information on recreational opportunities like hunting, hiking, camping, and skiing, and excellent places to view wildlife. Readers will find everything from fishing experiences and tips, to Forest Ranger rescues within the magazine's pages.

As a special bonus, Conservationist for Kids, a pencil-friendly pullout directed at younger readers that is published three times a year, is included with each subscription.

To order online, visit DEC's website and click on the Conservationist icon, or call 1-800-678-6399 and mention the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale.
