Five Rivers Environmental Education Center, at 56 Game Farm Road, Delmar, Albany County, is your place for exploring the outdoors. Our grounds are open daily from sunrise to sunset. Our visitor center is open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, except state holidays.
REMINDER: Dogs and other pets are not permitted at Five Rivers. If you are looking for a natural area to walk with your pet, we are happy to recommend nearby locations where they are welcome. Call us at 518-475-0291.

Saturday, November 4, 10:00 AM – Guided Walk: OLD FIELD TRAIL Hike through Old Field Trail's meandering wilds. Visit forest, shrub, prairie and pond habitats while enjoying fall's crisp weather and vibrant colors. Trail distance is about one mile. Bring drinking water and appropriate footwear.
Saturday, November 4, 2:00 PM – WHAT GALLS YOU Bulging galls on plant stems provide shelter for a variety of overwintering insects. Center naturalists will explain how some insects trigger abnormal growth in certain plants, creating both shelter and food for insect larvae. We'll casually stroll our gentle trails, stopping along the way to learn about these galling insects and the plants they inhabit.
Monday, November 6, 7:00 to 9:00 PM – HMBC Speaker Series: VALLEY OF BIRDS - BIRDING THE RIO GRANDE VALLEY Join members of the Hudson-Mohawk Bird Club for their monthly speaker series. Details for this month’s program, presented by Scott Stoner and Denise Hackert-Stoner, are at the Hudson-Mohawk Bird Club’s website.
Saturday, November 11 – Visitor Center Closed in Observance of Veterans Day The visitor center will be closed on November 11 in observance of Veterans Day. The trails will be open from sunrise to sunset. Restrooms will be available at the Guided School Program building during daylight hours. Previously scheduled programs for this day have been canceled.
Saturday, November 18, 10:00 AM – NATURE’S ACCESSIBLE GUIDED WALK We will go out on the Natures Accessible Backyard Trail and use our senses to explore and discover what’s happening in late fall at Five Rivers. An electric-scooter chair, a push chair and a trail wheelchair are available. Please call us at 518-475-0291 to reserve one.
Saturday, November 18, 2:00 PM – Wilderness: CREATING A CHANGING AMERICAN IDENTITY How did the landscape of America influence the identity of a young nation? Join us for a look at why Five Rivers Environmental Education Center is a direct result of how our landscape historically defined us and continues to do so today.
Saturday, November 25, 10:00 AM – Watchable Wildlife: WILD TURKEYS The wild turkey was absent from New York State for about 100 years. During this indoor presentation, come learn about these remarkable animals and their amazing comeback. Then join us for an outdoor walk to learn more about the part that Five Rivers played in the recovery of this species.
Saturday, November 25, 2:00 PM – Family Fun: TALKIN’ TURKEY Come learn about wild turkeys at this family-friendly program. You’ll learn the natural history of these fascinating animals through an indoor presentation, games, crafts and a short outdoor walk. This program is best suited for children 5-10 years old. Adults must accompany children. This program is free of charge, but space is limited. Please call the Center at 518-475-0291 to register by Wednesday, November 22.
