Each year, Bureau of Fisheries staff survey and report on fisheries management activities in waters from Montauk to Buffalo. The results of many of these surveys and other scientific studies, as well as species management plans and annual summaries, can be found on the DEC website. Check back frequently, as information is updated on a regular basis. Trout Season Closes on Many New York Waters on October 15
Anglers are reminded that the statewide season for trout on many waters closes on October 15. Some waters have special regulations that allow for fishing beyond this date. A number of lakes and ponds are also open for ice fishing. Look for "ice fishing permitted" in the "Method" column of the Regulations by County tables.
