Take Action on Climate Change -- Show Your Support Today

Dear Fellow New Yorker,

In response to the United States withdrawing from the Paris climate agreement, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo joined California Governor Edmund G. Brown and Washington Governor Jay Inslee to launch the U.S. Climate Alliance, a coalition of states committed to taking aggressive action on climate change.

If Washington will not act on climate change then New Yorkers must. Will you show your support for the U.S. Climate Alliance and the fight to protect our climate?

As the federal government abdicates its responsibility and ignores basic science, states across the nation are picking up the mantle of climate leadership.  Since launching last month, the U.S. Climate Alliance has grown to include 14 member states and territories, representing more than 30 percent of Americans.

The coalition builds on New York’s ongoing efforts to advance energy efficiency, renewable energy programs and make our world a better place for our children, including:

• Launching the Clean Energy Standard: The most comprehensive and ambitious clean energy mandate in the state's history, the Clean Energy Standard requires that 50 percent of electricity in New York come from renewable energy sources like wind and solar by 2030 and sets ambitious greenhouse gas emission reduction targets to reduce emissions 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2030

• Leading on Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative:  New York has partnered with eight other eastern states to reduce power plant carbon emissions 50% by 2020 from 2005 levels while creating jobs, reducing electricity bills and providing $5.7 billion in public health benefits.

• Pioneering Offshore Wind: New York approved the nation's largest wind energy project off the Long Island coast in 2017 and made an unprecedented commitment to develop up to 2.4 gigawatts of offshore wind power by 2030.

• Supporting Clean Transportation: New York is building a statewide electric vehicle charging network, and providing substantial rebates to consumers and communities to encourage the purchase of clean, efficient, high performance electric vehicles.

• Supporting Climate Smart Communities and Clean Energy Communities: New York is providing critical resources for local action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve energy efficiency and implement clean energy projects.

The reckless decision to leave the Paris Accord will not change New York’s strong commitment to achieving our climate goals. Add your name now if you’re ready to fight and protect our climate
