Four Educator Workshops! |

The NYS DEC Environmental Educator staff, in cooperation with Old Westbury Gardens Education, will be running four workshops at the Gardens on August 16 and 17. These workshops offer training on adding opportunities to teach environmental sustainability into your existing curriculum. The workshops are interactive, and are admissible for professional development hours. You can register for any number of the workshops. There is no charge for any of these workshops. For each, you will receive a certificate of completion and a lesson guide, provided by the NYS DEC. To register, contact : DEC Environmental Education (631)444-0347 or education1@dec.ny.gov. All workshops will be held at the Old Westbury Gardens 'Barn at Orchard Hill'. Directions below. Project WILD: Wednesday, August 16 2017, 9am to 12noon This award winning workshop offers lessons and activities intended to teach wildlife-based conservation and environmental education to teachers and community leaders. The goal is to foster a sense of stewardship in students grades K-12, promoting responsible actions toward wildlife and related natural resources. (www.projectwild.org). Project WET : Wednesday, August 16 2017, 1pm to 4pm This workshop is an interdisciplinary water science program for educators. Project WET lessons are designed to help students in graders K-12 make informed decisions about water resource management and promote student stewardship of natural resources. (www.projectwet.org). Growing Up WILD: Thursday, August 17 2017, 9am to 12noon This early childhood education program builds on a child's sense of wonder about nature and invites them to explore wildlife and the world around them. Through a wide range of activities, Growing Up WILD provides a sturdy foundation for developing positive impressions about nature and lifelong learning skills. Environmental Experience for Early Childhood: Thursday, August 17, 2017 1pm to 4pm This Project Learning Tree early childhood education program focuses on exploring nature as a complete sensory experience. Early experiences with the natural world excite children's imaginations and foster their inborn sense of wonder and curiosity. Environmental Experiences for Early Childhood provides the framework for influencing positive values toward the natural world. (www.plt.org). Directions to Orchard Hill, Old Westbury Gardens: 55 Old Westbury Road, Old Westbury, NY LIE (I-495) to exit 39 (Glen Cove Road). Follow the service road east for approximately 1.1 miles, turn right onto Old Westbury Road. Travel 0.4 miles, passing the main entrance to Old Westbury Gardens. Proceed to the white Orchard Hill gate on your left (marked 'Private Property') at 55 Old Westbury Road. Follow the signs to the Orchard Hill Barn. |
