New Angling Regulations on Lake George Allow Smelt Fishing by Hook & Line Only

Dip-netting is prohibited

The new regulations for smelt fishing in Lake George are:

  • Smelt season is closed from April 1 to May 15
    • Use or possession of smelt is prohibited during the closed season
  • Smelt season is open from May 16 to March 31
    • Any size smelt may be taken
    • Daily limit is 25
  • DIP-NETTING FOR SMELT IS PROHIBITED AT ALL TIMES

Anglers are reminded the regulations for fishing for any species in Lake George tributaries are:

  • Regulation applies from the mouth of the tributary upstream to the first barrier impassable by fish
  • Fishing is prohibited from October 1 to March 31
  • Fishing is prohibited between 10 pm and 5 am from April 1 to May 15
  • DIP-NETTING FOR SMELT IS PROHIBITED AT ALL TIMES
