Welcome to the DEC Freshwater Fisheries Insider. The Insider is a quarterly newsletter designed to provide New York anglers with up to date information on fishing in New York State and what the DEC Bureau of Fisheries is doing to improve New York’s fisheries. The 2016/17 Fishing Regulations Guide is now available at license issuing agents. The guide is effective from April 1, 2016 through March 31, 2017. Pick one up at one of the Sporting License Issuing Agent Locations.

The Freshwater Fishing Regulations are also available online.

DEC staff teaching a child to cast Free Fishing Clinics
Free fishing clinics are family fishing clinics where participants can fish for free; no freshwater fishing license or enrollment in the Recreational Marine Fishing Registry is required. In addition to fishing, participants can learn about fish identification, fishing equipment and techniques, fisheries management, angling ethics and aquatic ecology.

Walleye eggs 2016 Walleye Egg Collection
The 2016 Oneida Lake Walleye Egg collection began on Wednesday, March 30, at the Oneida Fish Hatchery in Constantia, NY. In the past three days 89,100,000 eggs have been collected from 1,607 female walleyes. The egg quote is 270,000,000 eggs.

It is expected that the egg collection will continue until April 6-8. Visiting hours are from 8:00 am until 3:30pm daily.
