Forensic Interviewing Best Practices for Vulnerable Populations
A two-day, in-person training being held at the NYS Justice Center’s Schenectady Office.
People with different disabilities may need to be interviewed in the course of law enforcement investigations.
This two-day training, includes an overview of the populations served under Justice Center jurisdiction, a discussion of abuse dynamics, the steps necessary to prepare for an interview with an individual with disabilities, and the stages of a successful interview. These stages include establishing rapport, cognitive and testimonial assessments, introducing the topic of concern, and consideration of alternative hypotheses. The final day provides participants with the opportunity to practice these interview techniques and receive feedback.
Mandated Reporting for First Responders and Law Enforcement
A one-hour virtual (WebEx) training.
The legislation that established the Justice Center identifies certain people, including first responders and law enforcement, as mandated reporters. Mandated reporters are required to report potential incidents of abuse or neglect to the Justice Center.
In this training, the Justice Center will teach participants about how to carry out their duties as mandated reporters. This includes identifying a vulnerable person, how to determine when a report is required, how to make a report, and what to expect when calling the Justice Center.
