Keep Track of Your Gift Cards
State Comptroller DiNapoli is urging New Yorkers to keep track of the gift cards they received during the holidays. New York State has the highest number of personal income tax check-offs in the nation, but an analysis by State Comptroller DiNapoli found that even as the number of check-offs have grown over the last decade, only a fraction of the money has been actually spent on their target purposes each year.
State Comptroller DiNapoli said, “Governor Hochul introduced her Executive Budget proposal amid continued economic growth; however, as recent years have shown, the financial picture can change rapidly. As the State faces outyear budget gaps totaling over $20 billion through State Fiscal Year 2027-28, it is important that actions are taken to improve the long-term stability of the State’s finances, while ensuring adequate funding for our most important needs, including education, public safety, health and mental health care, among other priorities.”
State Comptroller DiNapoli said, “The release of New York City’s $109.4 billion FY 2025 preliminary budget shows the pathway to budgetary balance can be achieved through targeted cost savings and continued economic growth, which requires vigilant monitoring of finances and management of operations. A take down of larger-than-historical contingency (in-year) reserves, better-than-projected revenue and substantial savings identified so far this year, including on projected migrant spending, will be used to close the FY 2025 budget gap.”
State Comptroller DiNapoli announced a tentative schedule of planned bond sales for New York State, New York City and their major public authorities during the first quarter of 2024.
State Comptroller DiNapoli announced the appointment of former Dutchess County Comptroller Robin Lois as the Deputy Comptroller of Local Government & School Accountability.
