County Executive Stands Up For Direct Support Professionals
County Executive Ed Day stood with advocacy groups calling for Governor Kathy Hochul to increase the wages for Direct Support Professionals who care for our most vulnerable population -- people with special needs.
DSP’s go above and beyond running group homes, day programs, and other supports for approximately140,000 New Yorkers with intellectual & developmental disabilities.
Nonprofits sought a 3.2% cost-of-living increase toward the amount they pay workers who care for the developmentally disabled, plus a $4,000 wage enhancement that would go straight into workers' pockets, but Hochul's plan offers only a 1.5% cost-of-living increase to nonprofits for workers' wages.
County Opens "The Cove" For Fosters
The Cove is a new transition space opened by our Department of Social Services for kids and teens awaiting foster placement. The room was designed with colors known to promote mental wellness, comfort and calmness.
