Rockland County Youth Bureau Grants Available
New City, NY - County Executive Ed Day and Youth Bureau Assistant Director Gabriella Marano-Holahan are pleased to announce that the Rockland County Youth Bureau is now accepting applications from all not-for-profit and municipal agencies who wish to apply for 2023 Youth Sports and Education Opportunity funding. Applicants must provide sports or physical fitness activities to Rockland County youth ages 6-17. The funding term for these grants is January 1, 2023 – September 30, 2023.
Funded programs are required to provide a variety of structured sports activities for Rockland youth in under-resourced communities. The New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) encourages a wide and flexible definition of sports that includes organized activities with movement, physical fitness and outdoor engagement, such as dance, yoga and hiking.
Sports opportunity funding awards are guided by the following principles:
- Sports-based youth development programs are out-of-school-time programs that use a particular sport to facilitate learning and life skill development in youth.
- Sports are effective tools in positive youth development and family engagement.
- Sports improve the lives of young people by promoting positive social, emotional, health and educational outcomes and have important life-long impacts.
- Coaching education greatly improves the sports experience and development outcomes of young people.
