Loan Repayment Programs Now Accepting Applications
Applications are now being accepted for the state Department of Health’s Health Care Access Loan Repayment program. This student loan repayment initiative is designed to expand access to care for Medicaid recipients statewide, provide financial incentives to health care professionals who commit to serving high-need populations, and address critical workforce shortages while reducing barriers to essential health services in underserved communities.
Health care providers awarded loan repayment funds make a four-year full-time commitment to maintaining a personal practice panel or working at an organization where at least 30 percent of patients are Medicaid members and/or uninsured individuals. Maximum loan repayment awards include:
- Up to $300,000 per awardee for psychiatrists.
- Up to $50,000 per awardee for nurse practitioners and pediatric clinical nurse specialists.
Both employers and individuals must apply to receive the repayment funding. Employer applications are due March 31, while individual applications are due April 15. For application assistance, please see the program guide or email healr@health.ny.gov.
In addition, OMH is now accepting applications for its Community Mental Health Loan Repayment program. Eligible mental health programs licensed or authorized by OMH can apply for student loan repayment funds on the behalf of eligible professionals in exchange for a 3-year service commitment from them. Please visit the program’s webpage for additional details or to submit an application. Submissions are due by March 20.
