Summer 2026: College Interns Brought Energy, Intellect and Enthusiasm
Every year, Nassau County Comptroller Elaine Phillips provides meaningful, paid summer internship opportunities to college students from Nassau County. In 2026, the office had a record 12 interns - five data analyst interns, three in government relations, two in Accounting, one in Vendor Claims and one legal intern. These bright young men and women learn a great deal, gain valuable experience, and contribute to the productivity of the office.
The Comptroller's 2026 summer interns:
- Analyzed data from the County’s Department of Assessment to determine the impact of grievances on other homeowners’ tax bills and the implications of New York State’s 6/20 rule* on property taxes over time;
- Revisited select MTA – LIRR stations in follow-up to the Comptroller’s 2025 Maintenance of LIRR Stations project;
- Created a new updated Map of Parks, Preserves and Museums across the County;
- Documented the remarkable breadth of services delivered by the Nassau County Health Department:
- Quantified the scope of work carried out by Nassau County’s Department of Public Works (DPW); and
- Looked at trends and outliers in the County’s payments to vendors.
Watch for articles about these projects and more in the Comptroller’s Corner online and in upcoming Comptroller’s newsletters!

Veterans Valor Food Drive & Walk
Summer intern Brianna Goodman of Merrick helped to organize the second annual Veterans Valor Food Drive & Walk which took place on August 8 at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow.
Comptroller Phillips partnered with Ralph Esposito, Director of the Nassau County Veterans Service Agency, New York State Senator Steve Rhoads and County Executive Bruce Blakeman to host this special food drive and community walk to benefit Nassau County's military veterans. It was a wonderful gathering in support of the men and women who have served our Country.

The event yielded many cartons of food for the Vet Mart Pantry in East Meadow. Our Nassau County veterans have done so much to protect our freedoms and serve our nation, and the Comptroller and her office were happy to give back.
