When I was elected Comptroller of Nassau County, I vowed to ensure that Nassau County’s government operates efficiently, ethically and with transparency. Among the tools my office uses to communicate about our activities and the County’s financial health are our website and Open Nassau, Nassau County’s transparency portal.
Open Nassau contains detailed information about the County’s finances, including:
Open Checkbook & Receipts – Open Checkbook lists virtually every payment by the County to outside vendors, contractors and other intergovernmental programs. It also includes a record of incoming funds, such as sales tax, property tax, user fees, bond proceeds and intergovernmental aid. This easy-to-search database is updated monthly. Explore Nassau County’s spending and revenue here: https://opencheckbook.nassaucountyny.gov/
Open Payroll – The Open Payroll module of Open Nassau details compensation to Nassau County employees during the previous calendar year. This includes any individual who received a paycheck from Nassau County, as well as any individual whose employment was terminated in a prior year but who received termination pay during the year. (Nassau Community College and NUMC employees are not included as they operate as separate component units.) Explore Nassau County’s payroll records here: https://openpayroll.nassaucountyny.gov/
Open Budget – In this module you will find figures that represent Nassau County's projected revenue and expenses for the current fiscal year, based on the budget proposed by the County Executive and approved by the Nassau County Legislature and the Nassau Interim Finance Authority. Explore Nassau County’s budget here: https://openbudget.nassaucountyny.gov/
Audits from the Nassau County Comptroller – The Comptroller's Field Audit Division audits internal County departments and agencies as well as organizations that do business with the County or receive County funds, such as homeless shelters, home care providers and other non-profit agencies. Audits may be initiated independently by the Comptroller, or at the request of the County Executive, the Nassau County Legislature, or other authority such as a town supervisor or special district board of directors. Recently, we published the results of our Review of the 2020/2021 Reassessment. These audits are an essential tool for uncovering waste, fraud, and mismanagement. Census Data – The U.S. Census Bureau collects and publishes extensive information about American communities, including demographics, economic development, education, healthcare and welfare. Included in our Open Nassau portal is an interactive map through which you may visualize Nassau County communities to better understand our region. Federal ARPA Funding Tracker – The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021, also called the COVID-19 Stimulus Package, was designed to deliver direct relief to the American people and to boost the economy as we started to recover from the pandemic. ARPA includes funding for the Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Fund (CLFRF). See how Nassau County is distributing the $385 million we were awarded here: https://nassau-arpa.finance.socrata.com/
Financial Reports – In addition to overseeing the accounting of all departments in the County throughout the year, the Comptroller’s Accounting Division closes the County’s books each year and produces numerous comprehensive financial reports including the:
- Nassau County Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports (ACFR)
- Popular Annual Financial Reports (PAFR)
